In short

Mayorca is one of the biggest shopping centers in the south of the Aburrá Valley, in Sabaneta, with direct access from Itagüí metro station. It started in 2002 as an outlet mall and is still a go-to for discounted brand-name clothes and shoes, but today it also has full-price stores, 2 food courts, cinemas and a bowling alley.

What it's like

When we first wrote about Mayorca in 2012, we called it the best outlet mall in Medellín for famous brands, at the end of the metro line. The metro has since been extended further south, but Mayorca is still right beside Itagüí station, and it has grown a lot.

It opened in November 2002 as Mayorca El Outlet with around 80 stores. A 2006 expansion took it to about 220 stores and turned it into a full shopping center, and in 2015 a third phase, Mayorca Mega Plaza, added cinemas, a bowling alley, a second food court, medical offices and business space. The 2 sides of the mall are linked by bridges over Avenida Las Vegas.

The newer part is bright and airy, with a tall atrium of slanted steel columns, skylights and palm trees. It's a local mall rather than a tourist sight, and that's part of the appeal: you'll mostly be shopping alongside families from Sabaneta, Envigado and Itagüí.

What you'll find

  • Outlet stores. The mall still has a strong outlet side, with discounted clothing, shoes, sportswear and bags from Colombian and international brands.
  • Regular shops. Fashion, sports, technology, home goods and beauty.
  • Food. 2 food courts plus restaurants. Mayorca also has a Pergamino café if you want good Colombian coffee between stores.
  • Entertainment. A multiplex cinema with several formats, and a bowling alley.
  • Services. Banks, a medical plaza and other everyday services.

Tips

Opening hours are posted on the official website and differ for stores and restaurants, and on weekends, holidays and in the Christmas season. Weekday afternoons are the calmest time to shop. If you're looking for a specific brand, check the store directory on the official site first, since outlet tenants change. For El Poblado's big mall, see our profile of Santafé.

Getting there

Take metro Line A south to Itagüí station; the mall has direct access from the station. From El Poblado or Envigado it's a short metro ride or taxi. See our guide to getting around Medellín for how the metro works.
